  PHOTOGRAPHY and GRAPHICS

My interest in photography began back in 1971. I studied composition and light and gained my experience by shooting. My first camera was a 35mm Minolta SRT-202 . My preferred subjects were landscapes, concerts and portraits. I shot Kodacolor. As I grew  more serious with my portrait photography, I moved into the 120 format with a YashicaMat 124G and worked exclusively in black and white.

I now work in the digital domain. I have 2 cameras. A Canon Digital Rebel (300D) and an XTi (400D) which is my favorite. My digital-darkroom is powered by Corel Draw 12 and Adobe Photoshop. For printing services I use Kula Photo in Hartford, Connecticut. I love shooting digital.

My portfolio consists of professional and personal portraits, commercial products, graphics design & layout, concerts and events, landscapes, nature and macro.  ... "it is all about capturing the moment and creating images that evoke an emotional response".

My graphics portfolio includes cover art for WWUH's program guide, Euphony 1 (CD), concert poster art, Marky cartoons, promotional material and a series of watercolors, graphic landscaping in garden designs and digital imagery. My web design and graphics work has been used to create pages for my own website, MRWebMedia, The Teltan System, Glassworks, The Springfield Stampede, The Culture Dogs, photographer David Agasi (Japan), Mile Marker Zero, East Granby Fire Department and more.

In the Studio (Music, Composition & Production)

I am a bassist, guitarist and synthesist. I consider my studio as important an instrument as any other. I began playing guitar at the age of 12 and have had the opportunity to have played with so many other talented musician/composers. My own compositions include film scores, ambient electronic pieces, experimental, musique concrete, rock, fusion, ballads, love songs and commissioned scores for weddings and other special events.

My experiments with sound recording started back in 1970. In 1980 Marky Music Productions was created. Recording studio projects included collaborations with local artists in Connecticut, most notably Jim Rao, Jim Micucci, Mike Ravita, The Broken Hearts, Michael Mazzarella, Chris Curtis, The Private Life, Crawling Smash, The Gumby Brothers, Bob Graham, The Bud Collins Trio as well as my own projects with Marky Music - The Acoustic Trio (Stuart Donner, Susan Mullis and Keith Michaud), Ebow Banjo, Electric Beaver with Bob Reid and various projects with my wife Cyndie. In 1995 MoonLight Media Studio was created in Granby, Connecticut and became the production unit of MRWEbMedia.

My musical influences include Brian Eno, Steven Wilson (and Porcupine Tree), Neil Young, Francois Bayle, Stanley Clarke, Grand Funk Railroad, King Crimson, Yes, Jeff Beck, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Vangelis, Trent Reznor, Andy Partridge, David Bowie, Heinrich Schutz, Conrad Schnitzler, Michael Penn, Chris Stamey, Leeroy Parnell, Big & Rich and Opeth to name a few.

  Broadcasting

Since 1982 I have been a station member at WWUH, the University of Hartford's public alternative radio station. I began hosting Morning Jazz, moved onto Synthesis and for the majority I have been hosting a specialty rock show on Sunday evenings called The Greatest Show From Earth. Classic underground radio focusing on mid-sixties psychedelic, progressive rock and electronic music (full spectrum).

I have worked behind the scenes as stage manager for the Folk Next Door and Ambience in the Wilde concert series and have been involved in production and training. I have produced many promotional and public affairs spots and interviews with bands like Porcupine Tree, Dream Theater, Mile Marker Zero, BiaXident, Opeth and Ozric Tentacles to name a few. I encourage local artists and consider it "my mission" to give them radio exposure. Together with long time friend Susan Mullis, we have recently completed production of "Euphony 1" an ambient electronic music CD sampler featuring artists from around the world.

In the past few years I have had the pleasure of being on the air with both my sons Charlie and David. Being on-the-air is my way of giving back to the artistic community here in Connecticut. For more information visit www.teltan.org for the radio show and www.wwuh.org for the radio station itself.
